From ZOĪ to PRENUVO, preventive healthcare is becoming an industry

Western healthcare systems were designed to intervene once disease manifests itself. A new generation of companies now wants to move upstream, combining imaging, biology, artificial intelligence and longitudinal monitoring. With an additional $10 million in funding and launches in Germany and the Netherlands, Swiss company AHEAD HEALTH is attempting to build one of Europe’s first distributed preventive healthcare platforms.

Modern medicine can treat a growing number of conditions, but still often detects them too late. Some cardiovascular, metabolic and oncological diseases can progress for years before the first symptoms appear. The tests capable of revealing these early warning signs already exist, but remain fragmented across laboratories, radiologists, specialists and general practitioners. They are also rarely reimbursed when performed on asymptomatic patients.

AHEAD HEALTH intends to position itself at the intersection of conventional medicine, advanced diagnostics and the emerging longevity industry.

Ten million dollars to expand beyond Switzerland

Founded in Zurich in 2024, the company has raised $10 million from Vienna-based fund 3VC and existing investor RTP GLOBAL. The transaction comes six months after a first $6 million round led by RTP GLOBAL, with participation from TINY.VC, PARETO 20 and several business angels. If the two transactions are indeed separate, AHEAD HEALTH has raised $16 million since January 2026. The company has not, however, disclosed the precise classification of the new round or its valuation.

The capital will finance its launch in Germany and the Netherlands, its first two markets outside Switzerland. Appointments are already available in Munich, while the first Dutch users are being welcomed in Amsterdam ahead of a broader rollout.

AHEAD HEALTH offers a health assessment combining a whole-body MRI, blood tests covering more than 80 biomarkers and a platform that aggregates results, medical history and recommendations. The file is reviewed by a licensed physician before being returned to the patient as a personalised action plan.

In Switzerland, packages including an MRI cost between CHF 1,990 and CHF 3,549. An annual membership starting at CHF 299 provides access to repeat blood tests, biomarker monitoring and preferential rates on additional examinations. For now, this is therefore a form of privately funded preventive medicine, paid for directly by patients and aimed at customers with significant purchasing power.

A platform without owning the infrastructure

AHEAD HEALTH’s distinguishing feature does not lie in the tests themselves. MRI scans, biological analyses and medical consultations existed long before the startup. Its ambition is to bring them together within a single pathway and maintain a longitudinal view of each patient’s health.

Unlike companies that build their own centres, AHEAD HEALTH works with existing clinics, laboratories and radiology practices. The company says it has more than twenty partner centres. It operates as a licensed medical practice, but does not bear the cost of purchasing imaging equipment or all the property expenses associated with a network of clinics.

This asset-light model allows it to accelerate its expansion. A new city can be opened by connecting several local providers instead of building a centre from scratch. It also makes use of available capacity among radiologists and laboratories that continue to conduct their traditional medical activities.

That flexibility comes with a trade-off. The value of longitudinal monitoring depends on the comparability of results, yet protocols, MRI machines, reconstruction software and medical practices can differ from one centre to another. AHEAD HEALTH will therefore need to impose sufficiently rigorous standards to ensure that a change observed between two examinations reflects the patient’s condition, rather than a change in equipment or methodology.

A global competition already under way

AHEAD HEALTH is entering a market in which the boundaries between clinics, laboratories, digital platforms and technology companies are rapidly blurring.

In France, its closest competitor is ZOĪ. Founded by Ismaël Emelien and Paul Dupuy, the company operates a Paris centre combining imaging, biological analyses, functional assessments, medical consultations and digital support. Its packages cost €3,590 and €4,990. The most comprehensive includes more than 150 biomarkers, eleven functional assessments, five imaging examinations and twelve months of follow-up.

The comparison reveals two different strategies. ZOĪ controls the experience within a proprietary centre and resembles a premium clinic enhanced by software. AHEAD HEALTH seeks to become the common layer connecting a network of independent providers. Other French players, including MAISON EPIGENETIC, private laboratories and executive health-check programmes offered by medical institutions, occupy adjacent segments, but none yet provides a comparable platform on a European scale.

The United Kingdom is a more advanced market. NEKO HEALTH, founded in Sweden by Daniel Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, is deploying its own centres and equipment there. For £299, the company examines the skin, cardiovascular system, circulation, body composition and several blood parameters. It does not use whole-body MRI, but controls the entire technical and medical chain. After completing more than 100,000 assessments, NEKO HEALTH raised $700 million in 2026 to pursue its expansion.

London-based PRENUVO has chosen a different path. The Canadian company specialises in whole-body MRI without radiation or contrast agents. It now supplements imaging with analyses of body composition, brain health and metabolism. RANDOX HEALTH, meanwhile, dominates biological testing through its network of laboratories and centres, while PREVENTICUM and ECHELON HEALTH extend the traditional model of the premium executive medical check-up.

In the United States, private preventive healthcare has already become an investment category in its own right. PRENUVO has built a network of centres around whole-body MRI. FUNCTION HEALTH developed through a membership offering access to repeat biological panels before acquiring EZRA, a specialist in rapid MRI screening. The combination has created one of the models closest to AHEAD HEALTH’s, bringing together biology, imaging, longitudinal records and digital interpretation.

At the very top of the market, HUMAN LONGEVITY combines genome sequencing, whole-body MRI, cardiovascular imaging and hundreds of biomarkers. Its main programme costs $8,000 a year, while its concierge packages can reach $19,000. BIOGRAPH and FOUNTAIN LIFE offer comparable services built around a one-day health assessment and continuous medical support. SUPERPOWER and MITO HEALTH take a lighter approach, focused primarily on biological analyses, medical data and software.

China presents a different configuration. The market is dominated by large networks rather than direct-to-consumer startups. MEINIAN ONEHEALTH and IKANG HEALTHCARE operate several hundred centres providing medical examinations, screening and health management services, particularly for corporate clients. Their advantage rests less on a premium experience than on their scale and the volume of data they accumulate.

Other components of the model are emerging around these networks. PING AN GOOD DOCTOR provides digital consultations and health programmes for insurers and employers. BGI GROUP is developing the genomic and multi-omics layer. SHUKUN TECHNOLOGY and INFERVISION provide artificial intelligence tools that assist radiologists in analysing cardiovascular, cerebral and oncological images.

China does not yet have a perfectly integrated equivalent of AHEAD HEALTH or PRENUVO. It does, however, possess every necessary component. If one company managed to combine MEINIAN’s centres, BGI’s data, PING AN’s digital services and SHUKUN’s medical AI, it would immediately command a scale that would be difficult for Western players to match.

Where does the artificial intelligence really sit?

Like many healthcare companies launched since 2023, AHEAD HEALTH describes itself as an AI-powered platform. The claim still requires clarification.

AI can operate at several levels: accelerating image acquisition, segmenting organs, analysing body composition, measuring brain volume, detecting abnormalities, interpreting biomarkers collectively or generating a medical summary.

An interface capable of bringing medical results together and making them understandable addresses a real need, but remains relatively easy to reproduce. A set of validated models trained on standardised longitudinal data and capable of improving medical decisions would, by contrast, constitute a far more defensible asset.

The risk of overdiagnosis

The promise of preventive medicine rests on a simple intuition: the earlier a disease is detected, the more effectively it can be treated. But the relationship is not always linear. Looking for more also means finding more abnormalities, some of which would never have affected the patient’s health.

Unlike CT scans, whole-body MRI does not expose patients to ionising radiation. Its systematic use in asymptomatic people nevertheless remains controversial. Available research shows a high rate of incidental findings, while the proportion of cancers actually detected generally stands at around 1% to 2%.

These findings can trigger further examinations, biopsies, specialist consultations and lasting anxiety. They can also create a false sense of security, as whole-body MRI is not the most appropriate examination for every condition. In particular, it replaces neither mammography nor colonoscopy, nor screening programmes organised according to age and risk factors.

The credibility of companies in this sector will therefore depend less on the number of abnormalities they report than on their ability to distinguish what should be monitored, investigated or simply left alone. Preventive medicine is not about producing the maximum amount of data. It is about preventing an insignificant data point from becoming, through the interface alone, a medical problem.

From a premium market to preventive healthcare infrastructure

In the short term, the market is developing among affluent individuals, executives and companies prepared to finance extensive health assessments for their employees. This premium segment serves as a beachhead market: it enables operators to finance their infrastructure, refine their protocols, build their brands and, above all, accumulate longitudinal data without waiting for public healthcare systems to cover the cost.

But this initial customer base will not be enough to turn preventive medicine into a mass market. Meaningful scale will come through B2B channels, including employers, insurers and health benefit providers, followed by gradual integration into care pathways. To convince these stakeholders, platforms will need to demonstrate that their assessments do more than detect additional abnormalities: they must effectively reduce complications, improve patient care and lower certain long-term medical costs.

The sector therefore sits at the intersection of three markets. The first is the premium health check-up, already solvent but relatively narrow. The second is corporate health, considerably larger but closely focused on return on investment. The third comprises healthcare systems and insurers, where access will depend on far more demanding clinical and health-economic evidence. The industry’s true size will be determined by its ability to move from the first market to the third.

Two models are already competing. Integrated operators such as NEKO HEALTH, ZOĪ and some Chinese networks control their centres, equipment and medical experience, at the cost of substantial investment. Distributed platforms such as AHEAD HEALTH rely on existing infrastructure to expand more quickly, but must standardise partners they do not fully control. Between the two are specialists in MRI, biology, genomics and artificial intelligence, raising the prospect of market consolidation around a small number of platforms capable of combining these different components.

The battle for preventive medicine will therefore probably not be decided by the number of biomarkers measured or the apparent sophistication of the assessment. It will pit companies capable of turning a mass of examinations into useful, reproducible and sufficiently accessible medical decisions against those whose services remain confined to wealthy customers. Without evidence, standardisation and a broader funding model, technology-enhanced prevention will remain a premium service. If these three barriers fall, it could become a new layer of healthcare infrastructure.
